This year, as the women's movement enters a new millennium, we consider the changing geography of feminist politics. In a world of shifting boundaries, where national, ethnic, cultural, and sexual markers are being constantly reimagined and redrawn, we need to consider retiring the model of a unified movement and, as philosopher Judith Butler insists, accept "divergence, breakage, splinter, and fragmentation as part of the often tortuous process of democratization." Next Wave Feminism: Feminist Intersections and International Alliances brings together distinguished panelists whose work depends upon interdisciplinary and international coalitions to discuss the state of feminism today, where it's going tomorrow, and the progress that can be made by forging unexpected connections. The conference will include a panel discussion, lunchtime breakout sessions with conference participants and panelists, and a keynote address.

Women's Action Now: The Changing Geography of Feminist Politics
Caren Grown is Senior Program Officer for Programs on Human and Community Development and Global Security and Sustainability at the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation
Joo-Hyun Dang is Executive Director of the Audre Lorde Project, a center for lesbian, gay, bisexual, two spirit, and transgender people of color communities
Patricia McFadden is an African feminist activist based in Zimbabwe and is a Program Officer at the Southern African Research Institute for Policy Studies
Vivian Stromberg is the Executive Director of MADRE, an international women's rights organization that works in partnership with women's community-based groups worldwide to address issues of health, economic development, and other human rights
Leslie Calman, Deputy Director of The NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund and former Director of the Center for Research on Women, will moderate the panel.

Janet Jakobsen is the Director of the Barnard Center for Research on Women and author of Working Alliances and the Politics of Difference: Diversity and Feminist Ethics
