Artist Statement

what remains and is to come is a collaborative dialogue and research project by Katrina Brown and Rosanna Irvine. We work together and with the materials of our practice(s): paper, charcoal, body, breath and digital technology. We bring no pre-existing theme or subject matter. We agree to make something and to not know what that something may be. Issues of materiality, relations and productive capacities fuel the dialogue.

How to think materially, to think-with materials such that materials activate in their materiality and not as tools for a prior intent?

Slowly we work with materials—with paper, charcoal, body, breath and digital technology. Slowly we work with the processes that are instigated through an examination of the properties of these materials. An incremental unfolding of relations between things emerges in action slowly producing a sense of logic in the particular situation, the particular beings-with. Slowly there comes into being a systematic accumulation of relational intra-action producing appearances.

How to let be the appearing of appearance?

The performance installation event is a dynamic and performative activation of material processes of and between paper, charcoal, body, breath and digital technology.
