Uzma Falak

Uzma Falak is a doctoral researcher in anthropology at the University of Heidelberg, where her work attends to questions of history, loss, and time through practices of sounding and listening in Kashmir. She is also a lecturer at the University of Tübingen. She has published in English Language Notes, Anthropology and Humanism, Economic and Political Weekly, Himalaya, and Disclaimer. Her writing has also appeared in Guernica, The Baffler, The Caravan, Adi Magazine as well as edited volumes such as Insurgent Feminisms: Women Write War (Daraja Press, 2024) and Can You Hear Kashmiri Women Speak (Women Unlimited, 2020). She was an artist-in-residence at Liquid Architecture (Naarm/Melbourne), where she was part of a cohort exploring sound and listening as resources of power, capture, and extraction. In 2025 she was the digital poet-in-residence at SAPIENS. She has also presented her work at the Tate Modern Exchange, Rizq Art Initiative, Rice University, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, West Space, SAVVY Contemporary, DYSTOPIA Sound Art Biennial (Berlin, 2024), and Norient Festival (Bern, 2026), among others.
