Elena L. Cohen

Elena L. Cohen is a civil rights attorney, legal scholar, and educator whose work spans the intersections of law, gender justice, and political theory. She is a founding partner at Cohen & Green, PLLC, where she represents individuals facing discrimination and challenges unconstitutional practices through high-impact civil rights litigation. Her cases include landmark actions against the NYPD; successful nationwide voting rights litigation; and the defense of protestors, activists, and sex workers. Cohen is a professor at Widener University-Delaware Law School, where she teaches constitutional law and legal methods. She holds a JD from Cardozo School of Law and a PhD from the City University of New York Graduate Center. Cohen is a past president of the National Lawyers Guild and a founder of the New York Civil Rights Project.
