Ranchola Blues

Fe Montes

Candle flickers in front of una foto
Abuelito de Parral has passed
Him gone I seem now to search for his seeds
Esos lugares in the land of my
Four fathers and four mothers
See, every Thursday night
I giddy up onto the casa
Wash and pull my hair back... pony style
And slap my swollen sombra
Into cowgirl costume, vestuario vaquero
And crown myself reina.
These nights of Tecate-stained memories
Are my escape artist acts
Stress strategies
To humble myself to the homeland
And find a man
Or is it a woman?
Once dressed as a man.
Como mi Tia Nacha
Una verdadera Adelita
Con sangre valiente
Que todavia corre adentro de mi
See Tia Nacha was the first butch in our family
As I now a lipy-sticky,
Mainly derechita girl
Attempt to closet the years of fears and tears
In dimly lit cantinas of confusion
Where I catharticly cleanse
My Coyolxauhqui cuts
by offering danza
Two stepping the Trail of Tears of my ancestors
Where their Achy Breaky hearts lie.
See, I go in circles
Offering danzante vaquera moves
In honor of 4-D, in honor of family
And all my relations
No. como una ranchera
No, como una chola
Pero, como una Ranchola
Sacrificando s self y su corazon quebradita
Reinacting la conquista en la pista
Porque me han robado la tierra
Me han robado la cultura Chihuahuense,
Mis raices raramuri.
Me han robado la esperanza,
Mi paz, mi dignidad
Hasta la semilla de mi familia
Me han robado todo...
Pero no, pero no La Memoria.
