Norma Abney and her son Tony Linfield
“When I was in high school, I didn’t understand much about my mother’s illness. When she was working on carpentry projects until eleven at night and getting up at six in the morning to keep working on them, I would ask her, ‘What’s going on?’ I couldn’t figure out why she never finished anything. However, when she was in a bad depression and sat on the couch all day, I had to figure out what was going on with her so I could help her. There were times when things wouldn’t have gotten done if I didn’t do them. Over the years, I’ve learned a lot about mental illness.”
