Andaiye

Andaiye (1942–2019) was one of the Caribbean’s leading radical social and political thinkers. In Guyana, she was a member of the Working People’s Alliance through the period of political turbulence and antidictatorial struggle that culminated in the assassination of Walter Rodney on 13 June 1980. Andaiye was one of the founders of Red Thread in 1986, a women’s organization in Guyana, and was a member of the Regional Executive of the Caribbean Association for Feminist Research and Action. Internationally, she was associated with the Global Women’s Strike and Women of Colour in the Global Women’s Strike.
